01 Purpose
The International Symposium on Comparative Communication Research was jointly founded by Wuhan University in China and Deakin University in Australia. The first symposium was held in Melbourne in 2018, and the second symposium will be held in Wuhan University. This is an annual symposium and held alternately by China and Australia . The symposium aims to promote the academic communication among comparative communication scholars worldwide, starting from the research of comparative communication between China and Australia. Communication research has been widely carried out in different historical, political, cultural and social contexts around the world, generating a series of research subfields that draw on different communication theories to address communication practices, such as media studies, public relations, journalism research, advertising research, etc. As an overarching discipline, communication research deserves an in-depth comparison of its history, development paths, theoretical traditions, practices and extensive influences on politics, economy, culture and society in different contexts. This symposium aims to provide a platform for scholarly comparison and dialogue among communication scholars from different countries and regions to promote the development of comparative communication research.
