16th -23rd April, 2004,The academic visiting delegation composed by Wuhan University media R&D center academic committee director ,school of journalism and communication Dean Professor Luo Yicheng the and other 6 professors visits Britain .This visiting successfully developed the cooperation between two sides in the medium research area.
16th -19th April, on the invitation of Sunderland University , the academic visiting delegation participated the “the Chinese and British media development seminar” witch sponsored by tbe school of Art, Design, Media and Culture. During the conference, professor Luo Yicheng, Shi Yibing , Shanbo, Wang Handong, and lecturer JiLi, Xiao Jun delivered their lectures and answered the attendance's questions.
The Council chairman, the medium and culture research center Director John Storey indicated that, the British maintained the enthusiasm to the Chinese media development, the Chinese scholar's paper provide the mentality and the enlightenment to the scholars in Britain
After listening the lectures , the dean of the school professor Flavia Swann highly praise : “the journalism and communication school of Wuhan University is an outstanding college, the school of Art, Design, Media and Culture of Sunderland University warmly look forward to develop and maintain closed communication and corporation.”
Professor Luo Yicheng said, the school of Art, Design, Media and Culture of Sunderland University is high ranking among the British universities. Wuhan University has strong willing to corporate with Sunderland University and establishes the new milestone for the Chinese and British medium research. .
After the seminar, on the foundation of fully understanding, Professor Luo Yicheng and Professor Flavia Swann signed “the Memorandum agreement of cooperation between Wuhan University and Mulberry Delane University” (Chinese and English version). The memorandum pointed out that, both sides agreed to start the cooperation from 2005 in three aspects, holding international academic seminar, sending visiting scholars mutually and exchanging doctors. The detailed cooperation memorandum and the funds memorandum would be signed then. After Professor Luo Yicheng and Professor Flavia Swann recommended the signature of the memorandum, the entire audience responded warm applause.
Loughborough University is listed the first Rough in the area of journalism and communication study of England. 20 April, on the invitation of the Social Science department, the visiting delegation line to this University and have a sound talk with the teachers and students. Professor Graham Murdock, a world well-known scholar, presided over the welcoming banquet personally, introducing their achievement in the medium research and the newest tentative plan to the Chinese guests. Professor Graham Modoc also expressed the willing to cooperate with the school of journalism and communication of Wuhan University and suggested to build this cooperation from the easiest realized project. Professor Luo Yicheng accepted it delightedly, and proposed exchanging visiting scholars to realize the most superior way of corporations. Both sides agreed to have special communication on the concrete matters in order to establish the long-term and constructive cooperation.
Besides the research achievement with British academy, the 6 professors visited BBC and Sunderland Echo. After the visiting ,Wu Yuwen, the Chinese department director of BBC International suggested that make cooperate in the field of training program with the school of journalism and communication of Wuhan university. Sunderland Echo published a report with pictures to introduce and highly praised the corporation between Wuhan University and Sunderland University. In order to understand the development and situation of Chinese media in Britain, the visiting delegation had a meeting with the journalists of XinHua news agency and CRI in Britain.
According to Luo Yicheng, the director of the academic committee of media R&D center, professor of school of journalism and communication of Wuhan University, The achievement get from this trip of Britain is plentiful. And bring another successful international cooperation, since November, 2003 this school has been signature letter of intent of cooperation with three big organizations of communication research center in French Bordeaux. Chairman Luo also disclosed that, after the school of journalism and communication succeed holds "the cross cultural communication international academic conference" in June, 2004, they have decided holds a time of international academic conference in second half of this year again. He said that, these international cooperation are powerful safeguard for school of journalism and communication in Wuhan University to make an academic image “top-ranking domestically, well-known internationally"
